Production blog: Props

Image
Last night I went prop shopping for props with my mother and cousin. A new dollar store opened up in my area so I decided to go there first. I actually had never been there until this project.  There was a huge craft section. There was lots of paper and beads and stickers and tape and such, much more than the other dollar stores in my area. I already had craft paper, a lot of acrylic paint, and some other materials from a pervious project, so I kept that in mind while shopping. I tried to limit myself to materials I needed for the puppet props and nothing else. I thought about getting a flower to go with the bee puppet I plan on , but I didn't. I also wanted  frog plushie for my own enjoyment but I decided against it. This is mostly because ended up with more product than anticipated. My mother needed some items, and my cousin, who is seven, requested a stuffed animal, so those were purchased. We needed white paint, the only color I was missing, so we bought that. I figured a hot g

Storyboard

1: Subject notices the camera and speaks his lines "Hey kids...etc. etc. " 2. Subject lip-syncs and walks towards camera 3. Lip-syncing continues before an head turn transition 4. Each animal puppet is introduced according to the lyrics, first the bee 5. Subject then comes in the tree where the squirrel puppets are 6. A small elephant figure is made big with forced perspective / zooms in on a tiny fly prop 7. Gophers sit in the dirt / Birds fly through the sky 8. Crickets and fish are introduced as well 9. Squirrel shares an apple with bird 10. Subject walks towards camera like in the beginning but now in the grass 11. Camera follows as he sits down with all or most of the puppets 12. The end screen is shown

The Plan

Image
Script: The first scene  *subject will walk up to camera and lip-synchs a bit* *each respective animal puppet comes in as the corresponding animal in the song is mentioned* *The animals fly or dance around depending on the type of animal they are* *For the finale the subject is present with all the animals for a cute finishing number* Location: We will likely be filming at the park. Props: I have the materials for: Two stuffed birds Paper bag animal puppets Wooden elephant Construction paper animals String and or sticks for puppeteering Backup: If it rains, I'll find a new park or film with a rainy aesthetic: umbrellas and puddles and raincoats. If I can't find strings to use for our 'puppets', I'll puppet everything with sticks. We will have to be outdoors though, so if the outdoors is unworkable, we will have to film in better weather. Costumes: My partner will be wearing bright colors, since he is the subject. My outfit and whoever else is behind the scene is irr

The song itself itself is a satire comedy piece on the nature of children's shows, how capitalism is portrayed in the media, as well as how minority voices tend to be silenced. But funnily enough we will be cutting it down to just a fun little Sesame Street-esque song. Children's songs is our genre of choice. CAMS: Camera-  Camera angles tend to be straightforward, never too complicated. The occasional zoom in. Angles- Mostly uses eye level. Often more sophisticated angles will be used to portray underlying themes or messages. Such things are not usually present in videos with children in mind. Movement- Unless it utilizes choreography, movements of actors stay in the same place or walk around a bit. The camera will usually stay in the same place as well. Sometimes the camera will gently move with or closer to the subject. It doesn't move too harshly or in a way that might be confusing for it's young viewers. Shots- They also usually don't go lower than an upper bod

New project, new group

I ended up properly grouping with someone this time around. I think this will make the process go much easier. This makes less work for the both of us. Since the project has been assigned to both of us, so we get to share the one project. We will be working on a music video. Soon we'll get to do research and work out the details. Then we'll sort out props, I'm thinking we'll probably need more. This s a more ambitious project after all.  Many of my blogs for this particular project will be shared between the both of us, for consistencies sake. That and convenience. We will likely split the work in half. The research, we'll do together. But we'll likely do one page of storyboard each. One of us will do voiceovers, the other will cut up the music. Or maybe one of us will act and the other will record. That's essentially how plan to split this up. Not exactly like this, though. Chances are, things will change along the way. That's how it went for my commer

I'm back :D

Back for another project! My name is Nicole Hernandez. I'm a student at Fort Lauderdale High and I'm excited to be writing blogs. I live with my mom, dad, and brother in our house. We all really like movies so I'm glad I'm taking a class that teaches the film process. So far, learning in this class has been interesting. We just finished going over terms to prepare for exams. We also turned in a practice assignment. The practice assignment was earlier in the year, but it still made me think. I take other interesting classes too, like U.S history. History has always been interesting to me. I'm also a part of mock trial club. I might want to work in the field of law, I've noted. Even if I don't it's a fun activity.  I enjoy my classes, for the most part. Exam season can be stressful, though. This is why i want to be as prepared as i possibly can. I want to be able to say  know what I'm talking about when writing an exam essay. I also want to be able to
