Production- Editing day

Image
All shots are filmed as of right now. I need to record voiceovers soon. Either I’ll do it myself or I’ll have Amanda do it myself. Until then, I have to finish editing the clips together. I’ve started, but Amanda actually had most of them with her. It’ll be a bit difficult editing the film in its entirety though. My phone is low on storage. This poses a problem because I have to be sent the clips from Amanda, and download them. This means I’ll have to free up more storage before gathering them all, or else I’ll have to edit on a different device. Not to mention the voiceover clips will probably take up storage as well. I’ve sifted through music and have picked one to edit over the whole video. I plan on stopping it for dramatic effect at some point. When I’ve got all the voiceovers, I’ll edit it to be slightly lower in volume. It’s meant to sound like a phone on speaker. I might do an accent when recording it. Or have Amanda do an accent, just to differentiate from the other characters

Production- Filming day

I got the majority of the filming done. Amanda came over much earlier in the day. We started filming at around 5:00 in the afternoon. It was supposed to be 3:00, but I managed to have yet another scheduling issue. My mom ended up having to pull over for a while. Once we actually got to Amanda's neighborhood to pick her up, we couldn't find her house. She had sent her address wrong, it ended up costing us about 15 minutes. Distractions kept occurring as well. It was my cousins sixth birthday party, and people were coming in and out of my garage. Sometimes someone would walk on camera. It was really just an unfortunate coincidence that it was the day of my cousins party. I was also running on empty for a while, I hadn't eaten much. Regardless, all props were set up, we were ready to go. Once filming, I had to get creative with camera positioning, but not in the way I would have liked. My mom was busy with my cousins party, so we didn't have anyone to hold the camera for

Production- Filming day

The day I had in mind to film didn't work. I planned to meet the person playing character C ( Amanda )  on Friday. But it wasn't mean tot be. I had too many people over at my house. She has a ride to my place but not back. I couldn't drive her back because we would have finished late. Saturday she was busy. Sunday I was busy. After a long phone conversation, we  figured it out. Finally, filming could commence. And yet, we ran into even more problems. We scheduled to meet, but on that day I was misinformed about a meeting that I had for a different class. I couldn't miss it, it was earlier than I had thought it was and it ate up a solid four hours. Then, Amandas mother had a dentist appointment that she couldn't miss, which then cut into our schedule. It wouldn't be a problem if either of us could drive, but alas. We met at around 7:00, and after dinner and prep the sun had gone down, so the lighting was terrible. We did a lot of blocking,  filmed a few shots tho

Production- Props all finished!

Recently there was a dollar store built next to the craft store near where I live. This made shopping for snacks as well as the other props much more convenient. To buy our snacks for the decorating scene, I went to the dollar store. I just bought snacks I already like. I'll probably eat them after filming is over. Hopefully by then they won't be stale. We went to the craft store right next door to buy the other things. It wasn't party city levels of party supplies, but it was enough. I bought a black tablecloth and plates, some cups too. Everything is Halloween colored. We tried to get balloons but weirdly neither stores had any at the time.  I searched my garage for Halloween decorations and found an absolute jackpot. Turns out I have the cutest little orange string lights, and boxes big enough to put the tablecloth over. I also have an old box from past groceries that I mentioned I might need in my last update, which is great. It's all emptied out and ready, perfect

Production- Prop ideas

Prop collecting starts soon. I thought Halloween decorations would be good for the decorating scene. I don't think they're sold anywhere in March though. I have a few at my house, but not plates and cups. I'm limited at the moment to plastic bats. I'd like something more scary. Not for scare factor but more for less distracting feel. But anything I have is pretty cutesy. I will likely go to the dollar store again. If not, I'll head to party city. I have to save a large empty soda bottle for the soda scene. It's a bit of a Chekov's gun. I'll probably get water and dye it brown. Or maybe a more fun color, like blue or green. My garage floor is a light blue, so I think an orange would pop more. I don't want to buy a bottle of orange soda though, It would take a while to empty and I don't have one ready. I do have an almost empty bottle of regular soda though, so it'll probably just make a new label. I think I can get a box from the grocery stor

Production- Music

Image
Before I even fully fleshed out my idea I had music in mind. I quite like the sound of Jack Stauber's music. Buttercup is arguably his famous one, albeit a more conventional sounding one. But that is how I found his music. I haven't listened to all of his songs yet, but his sound stood out to me. In an interview, he said something along the lines of "If something sounds good or funny I'll use it in a song", and it shows. It's always a fun time to listen to his songs, and I can appreciate that.  The spontaneity of the vocals, the delivery of them, and even the sound to some degree reminds me of Queen a bit.  His lyrics, while random and at some points even unintelligible, have been chosen meticulously, leaving meanings to his songs open to analysis and interpretation. I was particularly inspired by Oh Klahoma. So far it's one of my favorites of his. The beat is steady, not super overwhelming. In my head the story was always about a ghost, with lines like &
