Genre research: Sci-fi

Camera
In Sci-fi films they tend to have the camera track, slow zooms are used occasionally, but more often than not the camera stays still. Close ups are used for emotion as with most films.
Angles
Often high or low angles are used to show scale, often there are objects of large size like ships or rockets, and size will be exaggerated on angles. These angles will also be used to show threatening things, and to different different characters.
Movement
When a subject is moving, the camera tends to follow, the film has the camera run with or track the subject.
Shots
Close ups and variations of the long and medium shots are used, to show character expression and reactions, as well as long shots paired with certain angles for fight scenes
Common Sound in your genre
Diegetic sound tends to be grounded in reality to fit within the films setting, often different planets or a version of earth.  This includes technological noises, people talking, objects clattering, etc. Nondiegetic sound is the occasional
Costumes
Costumes in coming of age film tend to be futuristic, if they are grounded in reality it is only to a certain extent if not very briefly grounded in our reality
Lighting
Dark desaturated lighting, often tones of blue and green
Acting
Actors isn’t too exaggerated, based in how real people react to things.
Makeup
I find that Makeup is the most vast in this genre, fictional creatures being involved in the plots often
Props
Props are both every day objects and futuristic takes on pre-existing things
Set
Common sets include different planets, earth itself, big cities and small towns, and futuristic vehicles
Common Editing in your genre
Voiceovers are common, as are montages and voice editing.
Example films of your genre
- Guardians of the galaxy
- Star Wars
What elements of the genre that you like?
- I greatly enjoy character development and they tend to have groups of friends as the main cast
What elements of the genre do not appeal to you?
I get tired of fight scenes very quickly when they drag, and they sometimes do in this genre
